Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about ForeverLog and how it works.

What is ForeverLog?

ForeverLog is a secure documentation platform that helps you create timestamped, verifiable records of important events, interactions, and activities. Using blockchain technology, ForeverLog provides mathematical proof that your records existed at a specific time, making them valuable for legal disputes, intellectual property protection, and business verification.

How does blockchain timestamping work?

ForeverLog uses the OpenTimestamps protocol to anchor your records to the Bitcoin blockchain. When you create an entry, we:

  • Create a cryptographic hash of your entry
  • Submit it to the OpenTimestamps calendar service
  • Receive a timestamp proof that gets included in a Bitcoin block
  • Store the proof with your entry for independent verification

This process creates an immutable, independently verifiable record that cannot be altered or backdated.

Can I edit or update my entries?

No. Entries in ForeverLog can only be created and deleted—they cannot be edited or updated. This design is intentional and serves several important purposes:

  • Preserves integrity: Once an entry is timestamped on the blockchain, editing it would break the cryptographic proof and undermine its verifiability
  • Maintains authenticity: The inability to modify entries ensures that your records remain authentic and unaltered, which is crucial for legal and evidentiary purposes
  • Prevents tampering: This limitation protects against accidental or intentional changes that could compromise the credibility of your documentation

If you need to correct information, you should create a new entry with the corrected details and optionally delete the incorrect entry. This approach maintains a clear audit trail of all your documentation.

What information do I need to create an entry?

To create an entry, you only need to provide:

  • Date and Time: When the event or interaction occurred (required)
  • Description: A description of what happened (optional but recommended)

All other fields are optional:

  • Category
  • Subjects (children or other people involved)
  • Duration
  • Location
  • Attachments (photos, receipts, documents)

How do I verify my timestamped entries?

Each entry with blockchain timestamping includes downloadable evidence files. You can download these files and verify them independently using OpenTimestamps tools, even without access to ForeverLog. The verification process confirms that your entry was timestamped at the claimed time and that the proof is valid on the Bitcoin blockchain.

What is email timestamping?

Email timestamping is a feature available on certain subscription plans. When enabled, ForeverLog automatically sends you an email notification each time you create an entry. This email serves as an additional timestamped record stored in your email account, providing an extra layer of verification and documentation.

Can I share my account with others?

Yes. ForeverLog supports account sharing with two clear permission levels so you stay in control of who can do what:

  • Author: Full access to create new entries, view all entries, and delete entries when needed. Authors manage the account’s data and are typically the primary person documenting events.
  • Viewer: Read-only access to view entries and account information. Viewers cannot create, edit, or delete entries, which makes this role ideal for lawyers, court staff, or other professionals who need to review your documentation without changing it.

This is particularly useful for sharing access with lawyers, court staff, or other trusted individuals who need to review your documentation.

What happens if I delete an entry?

When you delete an entry, it is permanently removed from your account. However, if the entry was timestamped on the blockchain, the blockchain proof itself cannot be deleted—it remains on the Bitcoin blockchain as a permanent record. The entry data and any attachments stored in ForeverLog will be deleted, but the timestamp proof on the blockchain persists.

Is my data private and secure?

Yes. ForeverLog takes security and privacy seriously:

  • All data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS
  • Passwords are securely hashed and never stored in plain text
  • Only cryptographic hashes (not your actual data) are submitted to the blockchain
  • Your entries are only accessible to you and users you explicitly authorize
  • We do not sell, trade, or share your data with third parties

Can I export my data?

Yes. ForeverLog provides download options for your entries and evidence files. You can download individual entry evidence files, bulk download multiple entries, or generate a full account PDF report. All downloads include the timestamp proofs and verification information needed to independently verify your records.
